Joseph Conrad Smith
Joseph Conrad Smith has represented clients in complex litigation for over 32 years.
During that time, he has tried and taken appeals in numerous wrongful death and serious injury cases.
He has also utilized alternative dispute resolution approaches, such as special mediations and facilitations, to resolve complex cases.
Mr. Smith has obtained million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of clients, including a $5.2 million dollar settlement in a medical malpractice, brain damage case.
Mr. Smith handles cases in all of the firm's practice areas.
Mr. Smith holds the highest rating (AV) assigned by Martindale Hubbell, the leading evaluator of legal acumen and professionalism.
He has been a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates since 1994. Membership in ABOTA, a national organization, is by invitation only, and is based upon demonstrated trial practice experience and acumen.
Mr. Smith was also selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2003 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.
Mr. Smith was selected as a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation in 1997 for his significant accomplishments and dedicated service to the professional community.
In May of 1999, Mr. Smith was appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to serve on the Advisory Committee on the Rules of Evidence.
In December of 2006, The Michigan Supreme Court appointed Mr. Smith to a three (3) year term on the Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions.
For more than 22 years, Mr. Smith has served as a Mediator/Case Evaluator for the Wayne County Mediation Tribunal Association.
He has been a Guest Lecturer for the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association; Federal Bar Association - Seminar For New Lawyers; Detroit College of Law - Trial Advocacy Program; and NAACP National Continuing Legal Education Seminars.
